This is a very special box made by betjemann and sons in england circa 1870-1880 time period. It also has the retailer mark of Wedgwood and Sons at 9 cornhill, where it was sold. It is made of coromandel wood, an exotic asian wood. It's large, the condition is wonderful for it's age. It has a secret compartment when you push the crown in the middle of the slope portion, the back comes out fully to hide treasures. The lowest of a similar model I could find was $1000 in rough condition and no secret compartment. Betjemann and sons was Napoleon III's cabinet maker, which makes this such a special piece.
